Mo-mo Monday

So many things……

Happy belated Canada Day!!!

Even though I spent this years Canada Day in the States, I still represented! Friday at work I sported my “French Canadienne” T-Shirt with two Mounties french kissing and my red and white sneaks. I also made Nanimo Bars that turned out to be a great success!

What better way to celebrate than watching a cheesy white boy rap about Canada!?

Notice that Mr Lahey was in that video?

That brings me to my next piece of excitement….The Trailer Park Boys are coming to Orlando!!!!!!!!!! Plaza Theater, October 23!!! I’m already there.

I finally finished my jellyfish….sweet, sweet jellyfish.

My first experience as an Artist’s Model!

I got the call two weeks ahead, but I still left it to the last minute. I set my alarm for 6:30 Sunday morning, got up, made a pot of coffee and got to work. Standing naked in front of the bedroom mirror, the nervousness started to set in. I was so not prepared! While Voy watched half asleep from bed, I started striking poses and sketching out stick men making myself a “script” for later that morning. I had a few props: a pillow, a scarf and a hula hoop (yessss!)

Every Sunday morning from 10-12:30 one of the Art Schools here in town holds a “sketch club”

I arrived almost a half an hour early, wanting to make sure I didn’t get lost and that I had time to set up before all the “sketchers” started to show. I ended up waiting along with a few other people for the instructor to arrive. One of the guys came up and introduced himself as Quentin. He asked a few questions about the class (if we were in the right place etc…) but I told him it was also my first time attending. After a bit of chit chat he went over to wait on a seat in the shade. After a minute he came back up to me and asked: “Are you our model?”

Hmmmm….. Making small talk with one of the people I was about to get naked in front of was something I planned to avoid, but it ended up not being as weird as I thought it would be.

The instructor (Paul) arrived and let us in. Setting up the model stand and such came almost too naturally. (I did in fact, take three years of drawing back in University) I wasn’t a total newbie!

Paul had a quick look at my little stick men and gave me the go-ahead. That’s it. I dropped my robe and went into my first pose. So many words come to mind…exhilaration, empowerment, a great sense of self awareness, it’s hard to explain.

At the end, as everyone was packing up to leave, they thanked me. Such a great feeling.

Overall, I loved it.

Gummibärs and Such:Hip Hop Covers.

When it comes to music, ask me what kind I like and I will pause without knowing where to start. A better question would be “What kind of music do you NOT like?”

Easy! Most Country and Heavy/Death Metal. Other than that, I’m pretty open. Of course there is always an exception…

Covers are always a great way to change a song. My favorite covers? Hip Hop covers. 🙂

Gummibärs and Such: First installment.

“Gummibärs and Such” is going to be my ongoing list of things I love. Not really “things I love at the moment” but rather things I’ve loved for a looong  time and will love for the rest of my days. These will be in no particular order. Some may have explanations and some may not… you can’t always explain why you love something, can you?

#1: I LOVE GUMMY BEARS!

I don’t recall being a big fan of candy when I was young. If there was ever an opportunity, I always sprung for the chocolate. I wasn’t until my husband (then boyfriend) and I traveled to Europe. Our first night was spent in a little farm town somewhere in Germany en-route to a connecting flight. Instead of mints on the pillows, they had little miniature bags of Haribo gummy bears. I tucked them away in my bag and found them three weeks later back in the States. At the time I wasn’t really interested in eating them, but they were just so damn cute I had to snatch them up. When I finally did eat them, they were so good I freaked out a little. I was in Germany! I could have brought some of this gummy gold home with me!! But it was too late now 😦

Lucky for me Walgreen’s carries them and CVS makes a pretty good gummy bear too!
